The most-heard saxophone quartet in the Delaware Valley, the Delaware Valley Saxophone Quartet, was formed in 2008. Based in beautiful Doylestown, Bucks County, PA, the Delaware Valley, the quartet comprises local musicians who love music and playing the saxophone.
The DVSQ plays a broad range of music, from classical to jazz to pop, and is available for special events and fundraisers in the Delaware Valley area and beyond. From the US Constitution Center in Philadelphia to annual concerts in Nantucket, MA, the DVSQ performs for non-profits, art show openings, benefit concerts, private parties, and community concerts.
During the COVID shutdown, they held regular outdoor free concerts in Doylestown, bringing live entertainment to the community when no other performances were available.
The DVSQ and its members are the saxophone section and soloists for at least two symphony orchestras, where they perform both classical and pops concerts. In addition, well-known classical and jazz composers have written arrangements and original compositions exclusively for the quartet.

Brian is a gifted musician who graduated from Delaware Valley College in Doylestown, PA. In addition to being all of the above, he is a research scientist with a major medical drug company. Brian continues his music through the DVSQ, a soloist in churches, jazz groups and other music organizations.
Chris graduated from Delaware Valley University (DVU), where he majored in Landscape Design, a perfect blend for my passion for plants and creativity, and minored in Business Administration. He aspires to start his own business, applying all his knowledge from DelVal, as well as from business mentors, to make his business the best possible. He has been studying and playing music for over 12 years through my schools’ music programs including jazz band, marching band, and pit orchestra. In Delaware Valley Saxophone, he plays the tenor saxophone, but the baritone saxophone is his primary instrument. Chris also has experience playing soprano and alto saxophones, as well as piano and bass clarinet. Currently he is a member of DVU’s Symphonic and Jazz bands, through which he was invited to join this quartet. Chris enjoys spending his free time surrounded by beautiful plants and music!
Bill started playing the saxophone in the fifth grade and played through college and beyond then taking a hiatus for several years to work on a paid living and career. An engineer and businessman, Mr. Schutt founded MATCOR, Inc. a worldwide provider of engineering services and a manufacturer of equipment to prevent corrosion on pipelines, oil wells, offshore structures and other parts of the infrastructure. Mr. Schutt graduated from Drexel University in Philadelphia with a degree in engineering and business and holds several patents. In addition to his involvement with business, he is active in several non-profit organizations and serves on several boards of directors. Bill started the DVSQ, plays in the Delaware Valley University Symphonic and Jazz Bands, is a soloist in churches and plays in the Bucks County Symphony and other groups.
Doug was introduced to the alto saxophone in 5th grade. While learning the sax he fell in love with playing primarily the baritone saxophone. He honed his craft playing in various groups during high school and beyond. When he enlisted in the U.S. Navy Doug even took his sax where he served as a Torpedoman on a fast attack submarine (SSN 705 City of Corpus Christi) and practiced on shore and when underway in the depths of the ocean. After leaving the Navy he laid down his instruments as he raised his family and started his optical store Wohl Optics in Warminster, PA. Life though has a way of figuring things out for you and when his brother asked Doug to teach his nephew to play the saxophone, and through the prodding of his oldest and best friend that was as they say, “All she wrote”, for his comeback to practicing and playing the sax full time once again. A void that was is now filled and the call of the sax was too great for Doug. The enjoyment of playing and mentoring the Baritone, Alto and Tenor sax’s’ in various groups in the Bucks County area was too much fun not to continue playing and giving back to the community. He is quick to admit though the sax that gives him the most joy to play is and will always be the Baritone saxophone.
